A Word Document that contains links to other Documents no longer displays the linked Documents
You need to make sure that Word setting Update links on save is not selected.

DocuShare Client Shortening very long names
Because Microsoft Windows does not support file names longer than 255 characters, DocuShare client shortens the file name, or title, when you copy or check out a document.
